Jedediah Ellis is listed as a co-builder of the dam across the river for the use of The Sturbridge Manufacturing Company, Westville in 1799. It was located where the principal dam lay in 1877. Also, they erected a saw-mill as early as the year 1799 on the south side of the same. Later a grist-mill was erected at the north end of said dam.
