This was a letter supposed to be written by Emil C. Sandretzky. The first page was missing.

I was born in Rhode Island, U.S. on Oct. 1848 or 9 Grandmother said 48 and mother said 49. When I was 6 mos old, father and mother returned to Baden, Germany. My father was of English descent and was a teacher of English at the Heidelberg University. He was forced into the Krimean revolution between real Germany and Prussia. He was taken prisoner being a captain was confined in the fortification in Rastad and died there. So mother worked in Heidelberg those years and then again came to America leaving Julius and I with our grandmother for 6 years. Then in the winter of 58-59, they sent us. Mother again got married in NY then in 52-53 they went to Stillwater. So Juliess and I came to Stillwater in 58 spring 59. We were on our way several months so don’t remember the exact time when we got here. So you see I was 75 last October and I am going to live as long as I can see anyone else live.

I feel just like a boy, but I don’t feel otherwise. I am sorry, Charley quit his job at G.R. Rob is in Portland. He likes it there. Was talking of coming back for Florence, she doesn’t want to go so far from home. I did not hear about Susie’s chicks (checks?). I have not been there since Xmas. May go out next week. They brought the wood saw last week. Have not seen Arthur since Christmas. I guess it has been colder home than at your place. You may feel it in June.

I have been .. (can’t read this line) ..girl got married. Run away with a fellow, and this week the old folks got into a regular old time fight. She struck with a poker and I then had him arrested. Fined him $5 and costs. The girl lives in Mrs. White’s house on Elm St. He owes me $50 yet for that c___ him. It has run four years now and I could use it.

Hope this well find you all well and happy.

With love to all

Emil C. Sandretzky
