QUERY

My Grandfather on my mother's side was named James Hale MacGillivray. From what I have managed to get my mother to remember, he was born in Meaford, Ontario, Canada. However, mom has no clue as to his birth date. He settled in Oscoda, MI, with my grandmother, Amanda Amelia Fiedler, and had three children, Amanda Margaret, Jean Gretchen, and James. As mom tells it, her father was a writer (published the first Paul Bunyan Tales in the Detroit News-Tribune on July 24, 1910), naturalist (wrote several articles for National Geographic), and fireman. After reading your family history of the MacGillivrays, I can't help but wonder if my grandfather might fit into your family history. Many of the names are familiar (or perhaps they are just common to the MacGillivrays). My grandfather had brothers named William and John; and sisters named Margaret and Eveline (or Effie).
