Elmer J. Carney

Another elderly man, Elmer James Carney, 78 years old, who has been a resident of McHenry for the past year, died Tuesday morning, October 8 at 12:35 a.m. at the home of this daughter, Mrs. Earl Gilkerson, Main Street, McHenry. He had been in failing health for about a year; he became seriously ill about a week previous to his death.

Mr. Carney, a retired station engineer was born in Massena, NY on January 2, 1862 and had spent most of his life in Marengo.

Surviving are four children, C.W. Carney and Mrs. George Meuser of Elgin, Glenn Carney of Ft. Wayne, IN and Mrs. Earl Gilkerson of McHenry.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2a:30 in the Peter M. Justen funeral home, with burial in Marengo.

Former Resident of Erie is Taken in West M'Henry

Erie, Oct. 10 - Erie relatives have received word of the death of Elmer Carney, 78, of West McHenry, Ill, who died Monday evening in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gilkerson of West McHenry. Mr. Carney was a former resident of Spring Hill and Erie.

Funeral services were held today at West McHenry and burial was in the Marengo cemetery.

Mr. Carney was born Jan. 2, 1862, in New York state and when a young man came west. In 1886 he married Gertrude Lanphere of Spring Hill. They resided in Spring Hill a few years and then moved to Erie, where Mr. Carney was employed in the Erie flour mill. They moved from Erie to Marengo about thirty years ago. He was a member of the Baptist church. Mrs. Carney died in 1933.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. George Muesser of Elgin and Mrs. Gilkerson of West McHenry; two sons, Glenn of Fort Wayne and Clifford of Elgin; five brothers, Charles Carney of Geneseo; Fred Carney of Waupun, Wis., and William, Down and Orval Carney, all of New York state, and two sisters Mrs. Eva Eamon of Foster, Vt., and Mrs. Jesse Wells of Wilkensburg, PA. There are eleven grandchildren.

Memorial service at the Leon Methodist Church in Prophetstown, IL on Sunday, March 6, 1988:

Vivian Love born August 20, 1903, died February 22, 1988. She was born in Erie, Illinois the daughter of Herbert and Flossie Carney Fellows. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, William Eddy in 1962; two brothers, Virgil and Vernon Fellows, and one sister, Gertrude Boyer. Survivors include one sister, Vera (Mike) Jakes of Elgin and several nieces and nephews.

Vivian was loved by all who knew her. She was active in community and church affairs. Vivian joined the Leon United Methodist Church by transfer in 1967, after her marriage to Gerald Love in 1966. She was a member of the Yorktown Homemakers Extension, Social Advancement Society, Lend-a-Hand and Social Hour Club.

Vivian was at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison for six months transferring to Elgin on February 19, 1988. Those who knew and loved her join with us today as we celebrate her life in our community, offer thanks for the fullness of her years, and commend her spirit into the eternal call of the loving God who gave her life.
