Michael Olin? Possibly this was Alfred's middle name?
My great-grandfather, Willard Olin, said there were four children and that Mike was only child by his second wife. As Hulda d: in childbirth with Charles, Fred was the son of John and Sarah. I have since come into contact with a descendant of this family through Alfred. His name is Jack and he can be contacted at: Click Here. He believes that Alfred was the only child of John and Sarah. Jack also submitted the picture of John C. Olin and Hulda Stage above.
Footnotes:
[1] According to the 1880 Michigan Census, John had a servant, John Helpher age 21.
[2] This death date was given by Warren G. Olin, Olin Family Society Historian
[3] Witnesses were John C. Olin and William Taylor (son of Sally M. Taylor).
[4] Charles was most likely a brother to John Potter. Witnesses were John C. Olin and John G. Potter both of Austin Township
[5] The Alfred Olin family bible shows James as dying in September of 1869.
[6] Mecosta County records indicate that Emma J. Olin married Edgar J. Decker on November 4, 1892 in Mecosta. Emma doesn't show up on the 1880 census in Mecosta. However, I have since learned that her name was actually EmmaGene and therefore, she may have showed up as Eugene!
[7] These two children have the same birth year, yet they are only 9 days apart. I wonder if they were twins or were not recorded correctly. There is the possibility that Frances was actually a child of a previous marriage of Sarah Basset's. The other option, since they do not show up in the 1880 census is that these children died young within 9 days of each other.
[8] This child is shown as 7 years of age in the 1880 Michigan Census making his birth year appx. 1873, is he a twin of Frances?
[9] Mecosta County records show a marriage certificate for Alfred Olin, son of John C. and Sarah J. Bassett. Also, another marriage with Sara Yates in 1873 in Mecosta is also shown for John.
[10] Alfred is listed in the 1880 Michigan Census, Mecosta Cty along with John and Sarah Olin.
Note: The family bible for Alfred Olin shows that John C. Olin had 8 children: Lydia, John Henry, Ida B., James, Freddie, Emegene, Charles and Alfred.
