Hyram Moffitt was the son of Lemuel
Moffitt and Lucy Amidown. He was
born August 22, 1798 in Worcester, Worcester County, 
Massachusetts.
He married Rhoda Perkins on January 26, 1826 in Oxford, Worcester
County, MA. Rhoda was born in 1797 and nothing is known of her
parentage. Rhoda died on July 16, 1842 (see headstone on right)
and Hyram took Mary Perkins as his second wife and Lucinda Studley
for his third wife. Hyram died on October 19, 1881 while living
with his son in Beloit, Rock County, Wisconsin (See 1880 census
below). According to the Oxford records he removed to Beloit,
Rock County, Wisconsin. It was here that his grandson, John
Fremont Ellis, had relocated. So, it is possible. In any case,
there are no death records available for him in Worcester, MA.
I'm not sure how Hyram Moffitt obtained the rank of Captain or
if he experienced any military action as his birthdate was in
1798, I'll presume it was the war of 1812 though he would have
been over 50 at that point. But perhaps I shouldn't assume that
he saw any action at all and may have gained his rank in peace
time.
Hyram Moffitt through his marriage to Rhoda Perkins had the following children:
Harriet Augusta Moffitt born June 10, 1827 in Worcester County, Massachusetts married Jedediah Ellis on April 3, 1845 in Oxford, Worcester, MA and died April 9, 1861 in Richland, Oswego County, MA. These were my ancestors.
Mary Lucy Moffitt born April 13, 1829 in Oxford, Worcester, MA married Reuben Williams in Oxford on September 9, 1847.
Louisa C. Moffitt born 1831 in Oxford, married May 9, 1848 to Thomas Lamb in Oxford. She died in February of 1851.

Otis Moffitt born 1838
Charles O. Moffitt born February 1841
The names of Horace and Charles were passed on to Harriet's own sons, as well to Hiram, Jr.'s children.
