EDWARD MARTIN FAMILY
Edward was born March 11, 1809 in Western, Oneida County,
New York to Captain James Martin and
Caroline Pike. He married Chloe Hopkins in Erie, Illinois. Chloe
was born September 22, 1813 in Lebanon, Madison County, New York
and died August 10, 1884. Edward died August 18, 1876 in Erie.
They had the following children:
Helen Martin born November 19, 1831 in Mexico, Oswego County,
New York, married July 10, 1856 and died July 30, 1888.
Henry Martin born June 7, 1833 in Parish, Oswego County, New
York, married September 22, 1853 and died April 13, 1903.
George Martin was born July 20, 1835 in Parish and died August
7, 1856 in Geneseo, Henry County, Illinois.
Platt Martin was born May 1, 1837 in Marion, Wayne County,
New York and supposedly died in 1865 in Cheneotequa, Virginia.
Family oral history claims that Platt died in the civil war when
he was torn to pieces by a cannon ball in the battle of chincoteague,
VA. Fred Hillie, Mrs. Wyatt Lanphere's father who claimed he was
near him at the time witnessed this. There was no record of this
death, however, I have learned recently from a Martin cousin that
in fact Platt had deserted.
Carlos W. Martin was born February 14, 1839 in Walworth, Wayne
County, New York and was said to have married September 18, 1861.
However, he died April 11, 1858 of battle wounds received in the
civil war. He died in the hospital at Lexington, MO. His name
is on a commemerative monument for 12 young men in their early
20's killed in the civil war. The monument was put up by the Ladies
Aid in Portland, IL, Sandytown town cemetery about 3miles south
of Prophetstown, IL.
Emerett Martin was born September 29, 1841 in Parish, NY,
married April 11, 1858 and died April 10, 1904.
Fayette Martin was born March 14,
1843 in Parish.
Burton Martin was born March 17, 1845 in Mexico, NY, married
September 13, 1871 and died March 21, 1901.

Minnesota (as per Fayette's obit in 1943).
