Cain married Lydia Potts who was the daughter
of Jonathan Potts and Elizabeth
English on November 25, 1824
in Jefferson, OH. She was born on September 28, 1807 in Jefferson County,
Ohio and died June 2, 1892 at Spring Hill, Henry County, IL. They had the following
children, probably all in Jefferson, OH:
Jacob Cain born January 24, 1828
in OH m. Nancy Reed 24 JAN 1828 , Columbiana, Ohio
Elisabeth Cain born 1832 in OH.
Samuel Cain born 1833 in OH.
Joshua Cain born 1835 in OH.
Mary Ann Cain born 1837 in WA.
(The 1850 Federal Census for Henry County says that she was born in Ohio)
Mr. Cain died sometime before 1844
and Lydia took her second cousin, Thomas
Bolen,
as her third? husband.
Searching
on familysearch.org, I found this John Cain who would fit perfectly with
a projected birth year
of about 1807. Also, note that the Cains were originally from VA which is
where the Potts family originated:

Another possibility is that a John McKane who married Nancy Gordon in Jefferson
Ohio on 25 Dec 1806 could be the father of our John Cain. Jefferson, OH is
a great fit too as that is where our John married Lydia Potts.
The following
was taken from the 1880 Census for Precinct E, Seward, Nebraska. It may
be Lydia's son, Samuel Cain as the birth year matches perfectly. Note that
first daughter's name is Lydia.
