To ALL Descendants of Claude Le Maitre (Delamater):
Take
advantage of this very exciting opportunity! 350 years ago, this year,
Claude Le Maitre
landed on Long Island
and became the ancestor of all who inherit the name Delamater,
Delameter, Delamarter, De La Mater, De La Matyr, Delamatre, Delemeter
(various other spellings) in America. Now you can purchase a family
tree of ALL of Claudeís known descendants that will be
published later this fall.
The Le Maitre family left France and sought
refuge in Canterbury, England during the days of the Spanish Inquisition.
Later, after living in Amsterdam, Holland for several years, Claude
and his young wife joined a party of Dutch families and moved
to the New World. He eventually settled on Manhattan Island and
his family grew and spread up the Hudson River to the Kingston,
Rhinebeck and Albany area, and into New Jersey and Canada. Subsequent
generations, like many others in America, moved westward.
In addition
to the family tree information,
there is an overview of the family ís history in France,
environs prior to their coming to America, nearly 100 photographs,
and lots of biography that will help you to connect and celebrate
our 350 years in America.
It was my goal
over thirty years ago to trace the descendants of Claude, male
and female, and to record their stories. Since that time it has
been an exciting adventure to discover, connect, and track extended
family members. It is my hope that this book will bring to the
descendants of Claude Le Maitre an excitement, a sense of purpose,
and a better understanding and appreciation of our great heritage.
Thus the title of this book, Connecting With Our Past: A Genealogy
of Descendants of Claude Le Maitre.
This 2 volume set
includes the genealogy of approximately 12,000 direct descendants
of Claude Le Maitre and their families and an index of over 18,000
names. It will be printed by Gateway Press and has nearly 1,400
pages (8 1/2 x 11) printed on 50 lb. natural, acid-free paper.
It will be Smyth-sewn and casebound in Roxite cloth, the spine
and front cover stamped in gold, with a reinforced binding.
The
price is $169.95 (plus $9.95 shipping and handling). Feel
free to copy this letter and share with other family members.
